Red Bug Trail Jan-Feb 2013 revisions

First up, a basic map showing major proposed revisions. City of Tallahassee announcement for Redbug Bicycle Trail Rehabilitation Project. Ed Sutton of Trail Dynamics is heading the build. Ed along with Hector, Marco, Cristino, Mike and Manuel all have boots on the ground. Note: Red Bug trail marker numbers referred to in this gallery are applicable until the trail gets renumbered. Duh. As of Feb 2013, markers run from 1 - 119, with 104 - 119 being restricted to the Small Intestine section. 24 January 2013: Today's photos begin here and end here. The guys finished 320m segment NTC-1, spanning Ferngully, extreme SE corner of Red Bug Trail. See out-and-back VIDEO of the segment. 25 January 2013: Today's photos begin here and end here. Today's action centered on the southeast end of NTC-2, in the retention pond area as it exits to the skills area. 26 January 2013: Today's photos begin here and end here. Work continued today on segment NTC-2. Most of what might be considered the middle of this section was completed. Plans are to spend Sunday checking out other Tallahassee trails, then back to Red Bug on Monday. 28 January 2013: Today's photos begin here and end here. More work on segment NTC-2. A drop option was completed. Work then commenced toward the NW end of NTC-2. Ed and Bob retrieved massive logs and stone for two TTFs at the top of the section. 29 January 2013: Today's photos begin here and end here. NTC-2 was completed. Multiple log/rock TTFs within NTC-2 are still being worked on. We previewed NTC-5 and NTC-6. 30 January 2013: Today's photos begin here and end here. Work today was in the Red Bug marker number 40-41 area. That's just NE of the Log Jam bridge in a climb. Rock armoring was the business of the day. 31 January 2013: Today's photos begin here and end here. All complete on yesterday's armored climb other than a bit of finish trim at the top by marker 41. 1 February 2013: Today's photos begin here and end here. Finished trim work on the top of the rock climb by Red Bug marker 41. The remainder of today's work was 1) prepping for volunteer armoring session in the Red Bug marker 43 area and 2) NTC-3. 2 February 2013: Today's photos begin here and end here. Big volunteer day today. Action was focused on 1) rock armoring the "other side of the hill" from the previous days' action, and 2) NTC-3. 4 February 2013: Today's photos begin here and end here. Today's build finished NTC-3, then on to NTC-6. Flagged sections left unbuilt for another visit: The beautiful NTC-5, NTC-4, and the west side NTC-7. 18 February 2013: The guys are building bypasses around the rock armored sections downhill in both directions from trail marker #42 - no photos. Loop distance pre-build was 6.56km/4.08M - after the build is 8.7km/5.41M. See also Red Bug and Red Bug Reverse photo tour galleries. Official park map and additional park description. • Red Bug Trail (red, from 14 Nov 2011) with yellow Jan 2013 GPS tracks of NTC 1-7, aka proposed New Trail Construction segments 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7. My early favorite, before any ground breaking has occurred: NTC-5.
I do not have a clean measurement of the revised total distance. My guess? Closer to 6M than 5M, as little existing trail is marked to be abandoned. Distances depicted in the GPS links vary from a bit short to waaaay short of reality.
