Apalachee Regional Park NCAA Mods

See also the ARP 5Km XC Photo Tour and Apalachee Regional Park XC Course galleries. Some ARP videos may be found here. In preparation for a planned 6 July work day, I went back out to ARP to see what's going on. Primary - or at least initial focus is widening the tread to 10m (~33 feet) throughout. That's to meet NCAA Championships spec, as FSU will be hosting the Friday, November 9, 2012 NCAA South Regional Cross Country Championships. Saturday, 10 November 2012, ARP will see a 3A/2A/1A FHSAA Regional. Saturday, 17 November 2012, ARP will serve as host to the FHSAA Cross Country State Finals. Additionally, there will be the FSU Seminole Invitational 5-6 October 2012, the Leon County Middle School City Championship 2M 26 September 2012, the FACA Senior All-Star Meet 1 December 2012, and the GWTC Tannenbaum Trail 6Km 15 December 2012. I'd say there's a decent chance FHSAA District Meets will occur at ARP. FHSAA District hosts have yet to be decided as of this typing. FHSAA Districts must occur between 29 October - 3 November 2012. I'll add/edit as I get info. Work day photos from 6 July 2012 begin here. Re trees cut a few feet above ground level ... they'll be pulled out of the ground with tractor/excavator. Chain and leverage, as demonstrated humorously by this deuce and a half. Or push the tree over with an big enough excavator/dozer, as demonstrated small-scale on East Cadillac Trail by Trail Dynamics' Valerie Naylor, here. As Archimedes is credited with stating, "δῶς μοι πᾶ στῶ καὶ τὰν γᾶν κινάσω" or "Give me a place to stand, and I shall move the Earth with a lever." Fair enough, though Archimedes would have needed to stand ~9 million light years distant. As of 17 July 2012, the initial tree clearing for the purpose of widening the tread has been completed. One quick note re trees blue-flagged for possible removal that have not yet been cut. Many times I noticed the trees were marked on the inside of turns. Where possible, I'd suggest consider cutting trees on the outside of turns to avoid shortening the course. Course widening is to achieve the aforementioned NCAA specified 10m/33ft tread width (Rule 8.2 Article 2c, p.113). Much work remains in preparation for the 2012 season's NCAA D1 Cross Country Regional, FHSAA Cross Country Championships, and several other planned cross country events.
