Miccosukee Greenway XC Course Tour
This map is for the ANTI-CLOCKWISE ("lowside first") East Loop running of the 5K.
I left out course direction arrows. Not necessary. Just follow the splits, and it makes sense, ok?
We used this variant for the 2006 FHSAA 1A/3A Region 1 meet and FACA SENIOR ALL-STAR MEET.
10 Nov 2007 FHSAA 3A/1A/2A/Open 5k used this course variant.
Print it out to follow along while viewing the course.
Map rev. 9Nov07Welcome to the Edenfield trailhead of the ~7M long Miccosukee Canopy Road Greenway! The Greenway extends west another 1.5M+ to Fleishmann Road, and east 5M+ past I-10 to Crump Road. The Edenfield area has the lowest elevation of this "linear" passive park. http://www.leoncountyfl.gov/parks/greenways.asp

We have this comment from one "dugco:"
"hmmmmm Open race goes off at 5:30 pm... better get the tiki torches ready. John, does the Pugsly have a headlight?! Maybe you could go do another quick photo tour at around 5:40 pm"
How 'bout this here shot for a simulation?START
Looking left along the starting line.
We've "traditionally" started about even with this tree, located off the left edge of the line.
In the distance is the small parking lot at the Edenfield Road trailhead. During meets the field between us and the parking lot is used to fit a large number of vehicles.
With additional parking possible at the Thornton Road trailhead to the east, can you say State Meet?
NOTE:
Slight course revision for 2007 has the ~1250m point going around that tree "highside" rather than below it. (Gallery page 4 does not yet show that change.) I consider that an improvement. When possible, it's best to anchor turns around "immovable" objects.400m
The hill's only a bit over 200m long, ~50ft elevation increase. Real runners don't whine. There's a very runnable downhill soon enough.
If you want to complain about hills, try running the Barkley:

Ask me about the time I shared a hotel room with a "Real Man of Genius," Barkley RD Gary Cantrell.600m
We're about to turn left here to go back downhill. At the top is also a cul-de-sac which is sometimes used. It adds a NET of about 70m compared to just taking this left.
That 70m or so is the difference between measuring the course center-of-tread vs. tangent.
Subject to mowing width variations.CUL-DE-SAC
A wide angle view from behind this optional loop at the top of the hill. Start funnel is visible straight ahead in the distance.
Why do some races use the cul-de-sac? When you're setting up the course measuring tangents, you get to the finish "later." That would put the finish nearer the parking lot. Using the cul-de-sac pulls the finish line back. If this confuses you, you're reasonably normal.
Wide-angle view. Things are closer than they appear.WITH THIS PHOTO, WE BEGIN THE "RIGHT-SIDE FIRST," "LOW-SIDE FIRST," or "ANTI-CLOCKWISE EAST LOOP" version of the 5Km. If you're running the clockwise variant (as in the FSU Invite), skip ahead to Gallery Page 9!
1450m
[Anti-clockwise East Loop]
We're going to stay straight ahead here, as I'm now showing you the anti-clockwise (lowside first) East Loop. The East Loop is 2130m.
