Maclay School 5K/1.5M Course Tour

NOTE: These courses were NOT used in 2007/2008/2009! I'm leaving the gallery up, in case the courses are ever used again. Got it? GPS tracks for 30Oct09 City Meet 5Km and 2M. An every 50 meter photo tour of the Maclay School home XC course. 2006 offers a 5K and a 1.5M race. The course was used for the City Championships XC meet, SATURDAY MORNING, 21 October '06. The holding pond was not completely dry. A tiny bit of mud made things quite fun for excited spectators. They lined up to watch participants in the 5 races (and a foolish lead biker) splash and smoosh their way in and out of the pit. Hopefully, some photos will make their way onto the 'net. Send me a link, please! Took a coupla' rinses to get the mineral deposits out of all those hard-to-reach places. I'm sure some folks are praying for more rain before the District Meet. Print the course map, then follow along! Black "X"s indicate the ~360m "STARTING SPUR." Black DOTS indicate the ~1350m "LOOP." Black HEARTS indicate the ~580m "FINISHING SPUR" for the 5K runners. (The 5K athletes run THREE LOOPS, then exit on finishing spur. The 1.5M athletes run ~1.5 LOOPS, then finish directly east 64m on the track.) Where is Maclay School? • COURSE MAP
The new gym and its parking lot (due south of the track) did not exist when this Google Earth photo was taken.
If it's not clear enough from the map, the 1.5M runners finish by heading directly onto track, finishing 64m after passing 2350m point. (The 2350m point is almost exactly the same place as the 1K point, 1 lap later.)

P-Snoop the Pugsley is lying down on the start line. We're looking WNW, in line with the direction you'll be running. We're inside the Maclay track on the school's soccer field.

Let's get rolling on this ~360m "STARTING SPUR."

There's an orange pinflag just left of all the pole vault gear indicating what we'll stay to the left of. We'll then head out the northwest corner of this practice field.
I shot this at a bit of a wide angle. So things appear farther away than really are.

You can now see the gap in the treeline we'll be running through. Then, it'll be a hard right turn to get onto "THE ~1350m LOOP."

Pugsley's at 250m. We'll take a hard right there, as you can see. There's a trench just before that point we'll be filling temporarily for the race.

We'll be running between the posts with orange pinflags on top.
Actually, I'll likely remove the post on the left for a better/safer angle.

We're now ~40m into LOOP 1.
This is the northeast corner of the back field. We're going to hook around that pinflag-tipped post. Then run in just in front of that soccer goal and toward that backstop near the NW corner. Soccer goal likely will not be there during the race.
If you have nothing better to do, look closely on the rear tire, just above the right chainstay. Pugsley's sidewall is torn bigtime. If Surly can't get us a new Endomorph http://www.surlybikes.com/new.html before race time, I'll be on the Stumpjumper raceday.

I'll likely pull that pole (to the right of THE ROCK) out of the way for raceday for a bit more elbow room.
Sean Connery said it best: "Welcome to THE ROCK." A great GUY movie, right?

I took this photo 25 Oct, the day before the 1A District 1 Meet.
This is very much what the holding pond looked like for the City Championships.
