  • LINCOLN XC COURSE
NORTH is to the LEFT.
Aerial view from Google Earth.
If you look carefully, you might notice I've used different shapes for the dots designating the Start to 1M, 1M to 2M, 2M to 3M, and 3M to the 5k finish.
I DO NOT recommend using spikes on this course! Too much asphalt.
Spectators traditionally head into the woods after the kids head up the road after 800m. There's a great view of the racers as they pass the halfway point at 2.5k. Then, back out of the woods to the 2M and then the finish by the big pavilion.

  • HOLY COMFORTER XC COURSE
The newest incarnation, for the THURSDAY, 14 September 1.5M race. We'll be back here for another meet on 28 September.
Course starts at low point in field, left turn at 80m, then run outer "loop" anticlockwise to just past 1M. Continue straight till left turn onto "inner loop." First left after 2k, then left again into finish area.
If you expand this map, you may see I've used Xs for the outer loop, and heart shapes for the final ~half-mile inner loop.
24 course preview photos posted at the end of this gallery.

  • HOLY COMFORTER 1.5M COURSE PREVIEW
If you print the course map and look at it while viewing these photos, it will help make sense of the course.
Start/finish field. I'm looking ~south with the school to my right. This and the 1Km point are about the lowest points of the course. The orange pinflag in the center of the shot is the finish. We'll go ~80m, then turn left up ahead.

  • The Pugsley is at ~80m into the race. We'll be following the mowed path in a ~1500m loop. Then a smaller ~half-mile loop to the finish.
From this point, the course "weaves" basically straight ahead for ~500m.

  • 400m point (pinflag on right). We follow the RIGHT fork here. Next time around, on the ~half-mile finishing loop, we'll be approaching 2Km here, and take the left fork.

  • ~630m, another left turn. As you can see, we're heading back toward the school now. I'm leaning against one of the power poles, next to an old road. Miccosukee Greenway's behind me.

  • 800m at the pinflag on the right. Pugsley's up ahead at the intersection of the inner loop. If we went straight ahead from here into the "valley" (which we aren't going to do just yet), we'd be at the start/finish field.

  • ~830m. This is an action-packed intersection. The half-mile finish loop comes from the left. (The 400m/1970m point is ~150m to my left.) Finish would take the left fork up ahead. And we'd be at ~2120m out of ~2410m. But we'll take the right fork to continue.

  • At 1Km, we're at about the lowest point on the course. We'll head up this slope, turn right, then quickly left.

  • Approaching the 1200m point (~half-way), I get attacked by our feathered friend here.

  • At about half-way
Tom Turkey gets out of the way long enough for me to take this shot of the 1200m flag.
After I rode past him, he gave chase for a few hundred meters.

  • At ~1430m, a quick snap as the school's turkey is still giving chase. Just ahead, the course tread is OFF-CAMBER as it takes a right turn around that erosion fence. Down below is the start/finish field.

  • At 1500m, the tread has leveled out. We'll turn left just ahead, then downhill to complete the main loop. That brick building up ahead is where we started last year's race.

  • Ok, remember this point? The 400m pinflag is on our right. At 1970m, we'll now take that ~150m path across the main loop, then left toward the finish field. No more climbing. Next stop, the 2Km pinflag.

  • At 2Km, we have the equivalent of just over one lap around the track to the finish.

  • ~2120m. Pugsley's in that Y-shaped intersection we passed at ~850m. We took a right, then. This time we veer left and downhill to the finish field. One last hard left down there, ~70m before the finish line.

  • I haven't moved the bike. I just moved up to have a look downhill toward the finish.

  • 1.5M complete! By the way, the start is ~30m behind us, school's uphill to the right.

  • This is a shot from above the course looking down at the start/finish area and toward the first turn. You can see the top of the water tower (depicted on the course map) in the trees to the right.

  • Same idea as the previous shot, but looking down the center of the course. you can see the finishing downhill. All the way in the back is the section along the powerline.
