  • LINCOLN XC COURSE NORTH is to the LEFT. Aerial view from Google Earth. If you look carefully, you might notice I've used different shapes for the dots designating the Start to 1M, 1M to 2M, 2M to 3M, and 3M to the 5k finish. I DO NOT recommend using spikes on this course! Too much asphalt. Spectators traditionally head into the woods after the kids head up the road after 800m. There's a great view of the racers as they pass the halfway point at 2.5k. Then, back out of the woods to the 2M and then the finish by the big pavilion.

Course starts at low point in field, left turn at 80m, then run outer "loop" anticlockwise to just past 1M. Continue straight till left turn onto "inner loop." First left after 2k, then left again into finish area. If you expand this map, you may see I've used Xs for the outer loop, and heart shapes for the final ~half-mile inner loop. 24 course preview photos posted at the end of this gallery.

  • 400m point (pinflag on right). We follow the RIGHT fork here. Next time around, on the ~half-mile finishing loop, we'll be approaching 2Km here, and take the left fork.

  • ~630m, another left turn. As you can see, we're heading back toward the school now. I'm leaning against one of the power poles, next to an old road. Miccosukee Greenway's behind me.

  • 800m at the pinflag on the right. Pugsley's up ahead at the intersection of the inner loop. If we went straight ahead from here into the "valley" (which we aren't going to do just yet), we'd be at the start/finish field.

  • ~830m. This is an action-packed intersection. The half-mile finish loop comes from the left. (The 400m/1970m point is ~150m to my left.) Finish would take the left fork up ahead. And we'd be at ~2120m out of ~2410m. But we'll take the right fork to continue.

  • At ~1430m, a quick snap as the school's turkey is still giving chase. Just ahead, the course tread is OFF-CAMBER as it takes a right turn around that erosion fence. Down below is the start/finish field.

  • At 1500m, the tread has leveled out. We'll turn left just ahead, then downhill to complete the main loop. That brick building up ahead is where we started last year's race.
