STAY TUNED! Check the most recent beginner ride gallery each week to find the location of the next ride. I also post to the tal-rides list and the Tallahassee Mountain Bike forum before each ride.
These rides are structured to welcome beginner types. All levels of MTB riders are welcome to meet before and after. We'd like to end up with an "A" and "B" group. Everyone start together, faster riders perhaps split off for more mileage, faster pace. B-ginners and those wishing a slower, guided pace will be contained within a leader/sweeper setup. B group will plan regroup points as we go along so as to not abandon the sweep.
NEXT RIDE:
SUNDAY, 11 October, 10am at Munson Hills Trail. Meet in the St. Marks Bike Trail parking lot air it up, and let's roll! Hope to ride something similar to this.
(The previous week - I missed this one.)
Sunday 10am, 4 October. Meet at Forestmeadows.
The day before, there is:
1) A 5pm Saturday, 3 October "IMBA's International Take a Kid Mountain Biking Day" ride. Meet in the St. Marks Trail parking lot. Ken Foster leads the ride. Gallery here.
2) A 7pm Saturday, 3 October group NIGHT ride at Munson Hills Trail. As in, we're riding around the Munson/TZ trails in the dark with lights. You may RSVP if you like by joining the Fans of Munson Hills/Twilight Off-Road Bike Trails Facebook group. After logging in, look for the "Moonlight Ride at Munson Hills" link under "Events."
What happened to the Thursday rides? Well, our last Thursday ride was Wednesday, 23 September. We've run out of daylight with our 6:45pm starts. We're moving these rides to a "base day" of Sunday at 10am over the fall/winter. Looking ahead, Thursday, 18 March 2010 (7:47pm sunset) we can enjoy the return of DST. We may move back to Thursday afternoons at that point.
The weekly ride "day" may be adjusted on a case by case basis.
There is still the Higher Ground Tuesday 6:30pm ride that continues over the fall/winter with lights. Normally a faster paced, YOYO ride.
First ride of this new series was SUNDAY 27 September, 10am. Just a handful of photos.
We met at the Lafayette Heritage Trail Park parking lot, aka Piney Z. What looked like threatening skies turned blue before we began pedaling.
Five of us, Ken, Jill, Jeff, Justin and myself began the ride. We left the parking area via East Cadillac's highside. Regroup at the base of the Hill of Death, proceeded across the East Levee to ride Coupe de Ville. Continued on a full perimeter circumnavigation of Alford Greenway Park. Ken and Justin headed back to Justin's starting point at Tom Brown Park when we were in Alford's Field 4. After Jill, Jeff and I had recrossed the East Levee, we returned to Piney Z via East Cadillac's swoopy benchcut lowside. A leisurely Sunday morning ride, somewhat similar to our 18 June Cuban MagLab excursion, minus the huge crowd! My apologies to Ken and Justin for doing a poor job of lead. I've got these walkie talkies that are custom made for off-setting any brain lapse on future rides.
