9 July Cuban MagLab Higher Ground Beginner Ride

The Cuban MagLab Higher Ground Beginner Rides: You need not be Cuban, MagLab, Higher Ground, nor Beginner to participate. Show up and ride with us! The Thursday, 9 July ride found us at Red Bug Trail north of town. GPS track of the main Red Bug loop we rode CLOCKWISE is here or here. We met at the Meridian Youth Sports Complex, south of Forestmeadows Tennis & Athletic Center. Where's the Red Bug trailhead? Coming from the south, if you get to the Forestmeadows entrance, you've gone too far. The actual trailhead is at the extreme south end of the Meridian Youth Sports Complex loop. This or this may help, if you still have no clue. Red Bug is a very tight ~4M loop. Wraps around on itself to get that distance. All of the trail is blue blazed, with main markers from #1-103. The are some out of order numbers in the north Small Intestine section. #1 and 103 are at the trailhead. Having said all this, you can access Red Bug from Forestmeadows as well! 16 July ride details: Sez Jose: "This Thursday's beginner ride will start at Higher Ground. We will be leaving at 6:30 from the parking lot, ride the fern trail to Tom Brown and take it from there. We typically ride to the bathrooms at Piney Z and back but if we feel that we can make it to the end then we'll keep going. Hope to see you there. Peace OUT! Jose" Note: This is the same start as the 11 June ride. 23 September jaunt through Maclay Gardens State Park here. 17 September mini gallery of our Piney Z mudfest is here. 10 September Munson's westside action is here. 3 September action is here. 27 August ride gallery is here. 20 August ride gallery is here. 13 August vid and photos are here. 6 August ride gallery is here. 23 July ride was canceled for a MagLab student going away party. 16 & 30 July ride photos are here. 2 July ride was canceled (weather call). 25 June ride photos are here. 18 June ride photos are here. 11 June gallery is here. 4 June ride was canceled (weather call). • We rode this loop CLOCKWISE, starting at the trailhead near the bottom of this map.
The map is from this gps track loaded into Google Earth, then saved as jpeg.
Actual distance of the loop is ~4M.
See the yellow pin near the bottom? That's the start area for the loop. From this link.

This is a 6X6. Just out of view to the right is a telephone pole log ride.

  • Brian's starting boy young on the bike. That's what some folks call a running bike. No cranks or pedals to get in the way - just push and roll, balance.

We're at the first group break for the beginner group. Some faster riders had gone ahead at the start. We're at the creek crossing between #29 and 30. 30 is behind me, 29 is across the creek to the left.
